old age
Romans 4:18-22
18Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be."19Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead-since he was about a hundred years old-and that Sarah's womb was also dead. 20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness."
Luke 2:25-38
25Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who
was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of
Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26It had
been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die
before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27Moved by
the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents
brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law
required, 28Simeon took him in his arms and praised
God, saying:
29"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss
your servant in peace. 30For my eyes have seen your
salvation, 31which you have prepared in the sight
of all people, 32a light for revelation to the
Gentiles and for glory to your people
Israel." 33The child's father and mother marvelled
at what was said about him. 34Then Simeon blessed
them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause
the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that
will be spoken against, 35so that the thoughts of
many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul
too."
36There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of
Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived
with her husband seven years after her
marriage, 37and then was a widow until she was
eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day,
fasting and praying. 38Coming up to them at that
very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to
all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
1 Peter 3:10-12
10For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. 11He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. 12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
Titus 2:1-6
1You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. 2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. 3Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. 6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.
