Thanks to the generosity of members, Friends, churches, and other supporters, and by God’s grace, GOOD NEWS for Everyone!, working in partnership with Mission Eurasia, has been able to provide £50,000 towards the provision of Mark’s Gospel to members of Ukraine’s armed forces. As explained by Brad Willey, Director of Ministry Development, Mission Eurasia, Canada: These Gospels will be presented to three specific groups (1) New Recruits who are idealistic, patriotic, but also full of fear and uncertainty about their future and the outcome of the war. (2) Female soldiers who are fighting with the same determination as their male counterparts, but often with greater challenges. (3) Officers who carry the heavy responsibility for the welfare of their troops and the success of the mission. Each Gospel of Mark will include specific prayers tailored to the needs of each of these groups and are approved by all denominations and supported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.
The following story comes from the frontline:
Olga is a Ukrainian combat medic. Every day, she runs toward danger to save the wounded. She has witnessed more suffering than most of us can imagine. Under relentless shelling, without sleep, with blood on her hands, sometimes from her patients, sometimes from her friends, Olga began to feel herself breaking inside.
One afternoon, as her unit paused between missions, a military chaplain visited their position. He carried no weapon, only a gentle smile and a small box of Gospels. He offered her one of the Gospels of Mark and softly said, “This is for strength. Not just for the body, but for the soul.”
Olga tucked it into her medical pack, unsure why. But one sleepless night, as sirens wailed in the distance, she finally opened it. Her eyes fell on this verse, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
Those words sank deep into her heart. They became a quiet refuge amid the chaos.
From that moment, she began reading a little each day, during rests, while waiting for the next wounded soldier, whenever she could. In the midst of war, the Gospel became her anchor. Her hands still trembled, but her spirit grew steadier. Olga later said, “In war, I treat wounds. But through God’s Word, I found healing for my soul.”
She started carrying hope alongside bandages. She quietly prayed with the wounded. She whispered Scripture to those near death. And she began to smile again, not because life had become easier, but because she realised she was never truly alone.
And the chaplain? He returned often, not with answers, but with presence, prayer, and the steady reminder: “God has not forgotten you.”
This is the power of the Gospel. This is why we share it.
