Schools Encouragement

Yesterday my son’s school was visited by some of your representatives who spoke of self worth during an assembly and handed out pocket versions of the New Testament. I just wanted to take a moment to express how much that meant to us as a family and share a little about why it had such an impact.

We left South Africa two years ago with only a suitcase each following a brutal home invasion lasting several hours. Mostly the children were unhurt but they witnessed their father and myself being beaten unconscious more than once. We were, and are, so thankful to have survived and are making the most of every new opportunity afforded to us in the UK.

Packing an entire life into one suitcase of 20kgs means tough decisions needed making. I only brought our family Bible and didn’t make space for the children’s many stories and youth Bibles that had always been in our home. Financially emigration is tough and we’ve all learned to live much more simply and with far less, and my boys are great at not asking for any extras as they know how close to the wire things are.  Until yesterday I hadn’t realised how much that had affected our youngest son (now 12) when he came home with his new, ‘very own’ Bible.  He came straight in, still in his blazer and tie and launched right into reading verses that are precious to us and his sense of pride was palpable. It was humbling for me to realise that I had overlooked such a basic unfulfilled need.

Words can’t express how thankful I am to have your influence in his life. May your team be richly blessed and the work of your hands continue to flourish. Yesterday you made a very real difference in the life of one little boy and his family.
