Over the two weeks of the Wimbledon LTA Tournament, seventeen GNfE members from six Branches across London and the South East worked in sweltering temperatures to offer London HOPE’s, Outreach Testaments, Youth Testaments and Explore magazines in the areas around Southfields and Wimbledon stations. The famous deer statue, offering a little shade, proved to be a popular base.
The WhatsApp group, set up among those attending, greatly facilitated daily communication and was key in sharing encouragement and asking for prayer.
Among the busy crowds there were those rushing to get to Wimbledon, unsuccessful queue-ers hoping for a ticket, local residents going about their business, marshals, taxi drivers, police, shop keepers… and a few aimless.
Such was the hunger for the Word of God that, each day, heavy suitcases full of Scriptures were distributed in just a few hours. It was good to find other evangelistic groups also distributing God’s Word. And all this, sometimes to the background of nightclub music and alongside other busy stallholders offering their wares.
So many folks engaged in deep and memorable conversations with GNfE members. There was the young Catholic embarking on a Theology degree, the two policemen – one a believer but the other not, the Egyptian Muslim, the Muslim ladies, the Saudi Arabian learning English, the Big Issue seller, a Hindu communist, a man from Seoul in Korea, a Swiss man, an Iranian man, the Jewish lady, a Mancunian young mum, the Romanian worker, the Hungarian atheist, a fan-selling Ghanaian and the Scandinavian father and son - and oh so many, many, more…
Some spoke of their search for Jesus or had questions about Scripture. Others had their own strong opinions or asked for prayer. Great opportunities arose for GNfE members to testify to God’s goodness and the saving grace of the Lord Jesus in their own lives. At least three people were saved on the spot. Encouragingly, a number of Christians passing through the area also made themselves known to GNfE members.
Several GNfE members again took the opportunity to give Scriptures and engage in excellent conversations with fellow passengers on their train journeys to and from Wimbledon.
Apart from a few negative comments from passers-by, some last-minute train cancellations and one member’s excruciating sciatica, Wimbledon LTA Outreach 2026 has been a tremendous encouragement to everyone involved.
What a blessing to put God’s Word into people’s hands! And a double blessing then later to see them reading it! So much seed for the Spirit to water! How we thank Him for giving strength and courage each day to tell of the one way of salvation and to hold out the offer of eternal life. Estimate of Scriptures given is Hope = 1585, YTs = 40, Outreach Testaments = 350, Others 317 making a grand total of 2292 Scriptures
We prayed for the Lord’s blessing on the work; the Lord blessed immeasurably more than all we could ask or imagine. Praise Him for this excellent and God-honouring time!
ALL GLORY BE TO GOD
