details. For Peru they are obviously in Spanish and have
pictures from Peru.
We were always accompanied by an interpreter and
someone from the local church so that the new believers
could be followed up and discipled. These co-workers
too were wonderful in their support.
Since Peru is a Catholic country, it was no surprise to find
virtually everyone believed in God and knew of Jesus.
Some even claimed to know Him personally. But we quickly
learnt that the best approach was to tell our story—hardly
anyone was reluctant to listen—and then invite them to
accept Jesus to forgive their sins, receive eternal life and
thus experience hope, joy and peace. Nearly everyone
responded, “Si”, that is, “Yes”, when asked. We, or the
interpreter, would then ask them to say the Prayer of
Commitment in the Esperanza or Chispa magazine.
In a plaza outside a local Town Hall in Independencia, a
district in Lima to the north, we met four young men on
their lunch break together with their boss. It transpired
they were cleaners at the Town Hall. The Gospel was
shared with them and all five believed. The photo (top of
page) shows Michael (another team member), Carlos (the
boss), Junior, Jefferson, Ibsen, Franklin, Keith and Elaine.
