SHE THANKED US FOR
COMING TO SHARE THE
GOSPEL IN HER COUNTRY
Later that day in one of the many markets, Elaine shared
her story with the owner of a chicken stall, Christel, and
led her to the Lord.”
Working with the church in Ventanilla, the church
members acted out on the pavement the Gospel story
from the fall to salvation in Christ alone. This was to be
followed by a team member preaching the Gospel and
Keith was asked to do it!
“Open-air preaching was something I had never done
before but I was encouraged to go ahead. Fortunately,
I was given a day’s warning, so preach I did. I think the
team was pleased with my “rookie” presentation. Norma,
my interpreter, was superb and was I glad to have time
to think as she translated and remembered what I had
forgotten to include! The photo below shows me and
the response of Roger afterwards … lifting me up!
She responded very readily when asked if she wanted
to believe. We had one of our HOPE Gospel magazines
with us and we gave it to Kimberley. She was delighted
that she can now read John’s Gospel and some Psalms
in English as well as Spanish.
On our last full day in Peru, we went to a local park
near to Pastor Billy’s church to evangelise. As well as
the people we were able to share the Gospel with, we
met Christine, a Christian lady, who was reading a Nicky
Cruz book (before his wonderful conversion, he was the
leader of a New York Gang). Christine knew why we were
in Lima and thanked us for coming to share the Gospel
in her country. She then prayed for us! How humbling
that was.
You may have been wondering: “Did you meet
Paddington in Peru?” Well, yes, we did! There is a statue
by the sea—Lima is a coastal city—given by the British
Embassy in Peru “as a symbol of the enduring friendship
and cultural links between the UK and Peru”.”
On his last day, Roger found a few Esperanza magazines
he did not know he had and gave one to the team
driver, Juan Carlos, who took Roger, Keith and Elaine to
the airport. Another member of the team, Valdir, went
with them and shared the Gospel with Juan Carlos, who
indicated he would like to accept Jesus as his Lord and
Saviour. Valdir said he would not distract him while
driving but wait until they arrived at the airport, when he
could pray the Prayer of Commitment, which he did!
“We praise God for all he did during our time in Peru.
