forgiveness
Acts 13:26-39
26"Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. 27The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. 28Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed. 29When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. 30But God raised him from the dead, 31and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people. 32"We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers 33he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: " 'You are my Son; today I have become your Father. 34The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: " 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.' 35So it is stated elsewhere:" 'You will not let your Holy One see decay.
Isaiah 53:4-11
4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried
our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him,
and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our
transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment
that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are
healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone
astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid
on him the iniquity of us all. 7He was oppressed
and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a
lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is
silent, so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And
who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land
of the living; for the transgression of my people he was
stricken. 9 He was assigned a grave with the
wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no
violence, nor was any deceit in his
mouth. 10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush
him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a
guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and
the will of the LORD will prosper in his
hand. 11 After the suffering of his soul, he
will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my
righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their
iniquities.
Matthew 18:21-35
21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many
times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to
seven times?" 22Jesus answered, "I tell you, not
seven times, but seventy-seven times.
23"Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who
wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24As
he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents
was brought to him. 25Since he was not able to pay,
the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all
that he had be sold to repay the debt. 26"The
servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he
begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' 27The
servant's master took pity on him, cancelled the debt and let him
go. 28"But when that servant went out, he found one
of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed
him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he
demanded. 29"His fellow servant fell to his knees
and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you
back. 30"But he refused. Instead, he went off and
had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the
debt. 31When the other servants saw what had
happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their
master everything that had happened. 32"Then the
master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I
cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me
to. 33Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow
servant just as I had on you?' 34In anger his
master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he
should pay back all he owed. 35"This is how my
heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your
brother from your heart."
Ephesians 4:31,32
31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
