Posted by: G10749Created: Mon, 24/06/2024I would value your prayers for my dear wife of 52 years suffering from severe depression for over 3 years.
Although she's had bouts before, this is by far the worst, brought on by a huge tumor in her pelvis. Following a successful operation to remove this cancerous growth and follow up chemo, thankfully she is in remission.
She has been on a succession of antidepressants, none of which have helped.
We covet your prayers that our merciful God would lay His healing hand on her.
Thank you so much.Glynne Taylor Newport and Lower Wye Valley

Posted by: G6240Created: Thu, 20/06/2024Today (20th June) saw the funeral service of Les, who died after succumbing to the ravages of cancer. Being a Salvationist, the service was a very positive one, literally all the details having been prepared in advance by Les, a remarkable Christian gentleman, who joined the Association in 2001.
The Branch Treasurer paid tribute to Les at the service -
TRIBUTE FOR LES WESTWOOD
My name is Robert Snaith from Good News for Everyone, formerly The Gideons.
The phone call I received from Les on the day of his diagnosis, accurately reflected his attitude of others first. “Les here, Robert. You’re going to have to organises a new Chairman, and will you do a tribute at the funeral” were his exact words before he went on to tell me what the diagnosis was.
I’m sure some of us, when being asked to pay tribute to someone, have wondered what on earth we would say. There is no such dilemma when thinking of dear Les, a true Soldier of the Cross.
Les and I had a certain affinity, as I was brought up in the SA, and, small world, my grandparents were the corps officers here in Willenhall in 1929!
Les and Joan joined the Gideons as it was then known in July 2001, and in later times, Les was the Chairman of the Wolverhampton Branch. It was his overriding ambition that as many people as possible, particularly school children and university students, were offered a copy of God’s Word. We perhaps take it for granted that Bibles are easily acquired, but when an overseas student at the University asks, “What is a Bible?” it highlights the position that so many are in.
He also built up a rapport with the Chaplains of Featherstone, Oakwood and Brinsford Young Offenders prisons, ensuring that adequate scriptures were available to those confined in those establishments.
As Chairman, his enthusiasm for the work, and his encouragement to the Branch members, were outstanding features of his leadership, but at the same time allowing all members to use their individual skills in the promotion of the work. He was also a great encourager for fellowship, and members have testified as to how much they appreciated this aspect, totally non-denominational, but respecting each other’s church commitments.
As times changed, Les was always on the lookout for new opportunities for contacts in the Wolverhampton area to keep the distribution of the scriptures to as many outlets as possible.
Les was a big man in every way, and his presence in the Branch is keenly missed. As a Branch we extend our love and sympathy to Joan and all the family, as well as the SA fellowship here in Willenhall, the loss tempered by the certain knowledge that Les has been Promoted to Glory. If they were waiting for a Sergeant Major, they now have one! And he will already have taken his place in the euphonium section of the heavenly band.
The work of Good News for Everyone will go on, and the Lord will raise up someone to carry it on. Who knows, it may be someone here, have a word with me afterwards if you would like to consider it.
There is a verse in Micah ch 6 “What does the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with Thy God” It’s a challenge for all Christians, and that was Les and I salute his memory.Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Association

David Munton North Birmingham Branch
Posted by: G12914Created: Mon, 26/02/2024On Wednesday 21st February our dear brother David Munton surrounded by his family went to be with the Lord after a short illness in hospital. This was around 6 months after the home call of his dear wife Wendy.
David was a faithful member of the North Birmingham Branch who worked tirelessly to cover multiple roles and act as a referall point and mentor to the less experienced members.
He will be mourned but we have the comfort of knowing he is with his Lord and receiving his reward as a good and faithful servant.
Please pray for his family, friends and church members as well as the Branch who will all miss him very much.Wolverhampton University January Freshers' Fayre
Posted by: G6240Created: Thu, 22/02/2024Wolverhampton Branch is always welcomed at these events, and the Fayre held at the end of January was no exception. In summary, 200 NTs, 50 Hope mags, 30 Explore mags, 12 Bibles and 29 QR codes were given out. A police constable took 4 NTs for his flat mates, and an in-depth conversation with four Muslim young ladies was very encouraging.
As always, please hold these young people in your prayers. We know only too well how the present climate presses down on these young lives.
An extra thought - we are so used to accessing the Scriptures, either printed, or electronic. More than one student, when engaged in conversation, asked the question, "What's a Bible?"Request from the West Cornwall branch
Posted by: A4949Created: Wed, 07/02/2024Donovan's Granddaughter is very unwell and in hospital.
Sorrel is 10 years old and has had eating related issues for around 18 months. She will be in hospital needing total bed rest for 2 weeks. Sorrel was nearly lost on Sunday in resisting forced feeding. Donovan reports that she is eating now, for which they praise God. The plan is now to keep her in hospital to establish healthy eating habits over the next month. Please pray.
As we pray for Sorrel let us also remember the increasing number of children and young adults who are suffering from eating disorder’s, especially those who do not have the love and support of a Christian family.Prayer requests fro the Dorset and Purbeck Branch

We have a daughter, Hannah, who lives in California with our grandson, Buddy. He is twelve and on the autistic spectrum. His mind is in turmoil and he is filled with negative thoughts. Buddy's behaviour has become much more challenging and he was abusive to Hannah this weekend. As a single mother, with many responsibilities, life is exhausting for her. She was quite distraught when I spoke to her yesterday and I just felt she'd reached crisis point. Hannah isn't a Christian.
Please pray: That The Lord would intervene in this situation and bring healing to their relationship.
Strength and wisdom for Hannah. That she would come to Christ as Saviour.
That The Lord would heal Buddy's troubled mind and bring him calm and peace.
There is a second request from Majorie regarding her nephew.
He has 'complicated epilepsy' and there are issues regarding his medication. Apparently she is the only one supporting him emotionally and financially. Marjorie asks for prayer for her nephew and for herself.
