Please pray for Simon, the son of Jeremy and Elizabeth Brewer, in hospital with Covid19.   Simon is a strong believer and an elder in a church.  He works as the director of pathology services in St George's Tooting, London. He didn't come home last weekend, and it is there that he was admitted yesterday. He is about 10 days into his illness, and it is around that time that some folk get breathing difficulties.  He is on oxygen, and feels better with that, but he is still obviously quite unwell. Please pray that his need for oxygen will soon pass. Please pray for his wife and family too.  

From noon Friday 10th April:  Simon feels improved, but still obviously quite ill and still in hospital with IV fluids and needing oxygen.  Please keep praying.                                                            

At last – the end of an anxious fortnight !  Thank you all for your concern and for your prayers for Simon.  Simon was discharged from Hospital Sunday evening. Jeremy and Elizabeth send their thanks to all fellow Gideons who are praying.  

David Schwier passed peacefully into the presence of His Lord 19.05.18.  David was Zone 5 Trustee in the early 1990's, after which he became Zone 5 Chaplain.  David served on an Extention Action Programme to India.  David was born in 1924 and worked on his farm until he was 88.  Kindly pray for Margaret, his widow, Geoff and Jane Mann, and the family, as they give thanks for the gift of David's life.  David's thanksgiving service will be held Monday, 4th June, at 2 pm at the Parish Church, Fressingfield in Suffolk.  Members of Region 5 warmly and thankfully praise God for David's example of service and great commitment to His Lord and to the establishing of His Kingdom.

Please could we ask for prayers for Gillian Bulkley (wife of David Bulkley) from Lowestoft Branch, who has been diagnosed with Cancer and will be having a mastectomy on December 2nd followed by a course of Chemo and radiotherapy.

Update 18 April

After Nick’s visit to Christies Hospital (Manchester) yesterday.  Regrettably they cannot operate on Nick's cancer and he has been referred for further chemotherapy.

  Please adore our Majestic, Almighty God who loves forever.  He is the Great Healer, may He show His grace and special Presence through Nick.  Ask the Father to be especially close to Nick, Joy and family at this time.

Give thanks that the new Constitution was adopted by the overwhelming majority of 96%. Please pray as the Association transitions to the new arrangements and that the Lord will bless abundantly. Remember the National Officers in their interactions with International Cabinet, that the Lord's will may be done.

Please pray about the issue that some prisons will no longer allow Gideon Scriptures due to the prisoners using them to roll cigarettes, something that is being discouraged. Pray for those seeking the best way forward.

Give thanks with the Branch for a number of recent encouragements: one couple gave out 120 Testaments at a Town Festival using some PWTs over from washed-out Easter events; presentations have been made at two schools that were previous not open; and an up-market hotel/spa resort has requested 20 Bibles where previously it was "No thank you!" Please pray also for the Branch as they organise their Friends' Event now fixed for 7 July.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing!" Isaiah 43:18-19a. This verse was much quoted at National Convention. Let us give thanks to the Lord for His leading of the Association over the past 69 years and look forward to all He is going to achieve as we work under a new Constitution. May we be challenged afresh to share our faith and present Scriptures to the many people we meet each day who are in desperate spiritual need.

Please continue to pray for the National Officers in their interactions with International Cabinet, that the Lord's will may be done.

Please pray for Iain Gray, our newly elected Regional Director, as he leads the work in the Region, and give thanks for all Graham Beckett did over four years as Zone Trustee. Pray for Graham as he assumes his new role as National Treasurer, Also pray for Iain Mair and the staff at National Office as they serve the Association so well. Remember also the families of the staff.

Please pray for the Southampton Branch Friends' Event today that it will be a great blessing to all who attend.

Give thanks for the mini-Focus the Branch held in April. 24 Care and Residential Homes and Surgeries were visited with a good number of Scriptures placed and presented. The reception was cordial at all places. PTL!

Please pray with the Branch as they prepare to visit their main hospital for a top-up. This requires all members involved to have Gideon ID badges, so pray that may quickly happen and the top-up will then go well.

Pray for the effectiveness of the "Help keep a Gideon Bible in hotels rooms" initiative, and that all branches will remind "closed hotels" that Bibles are still available for their rooms. Also give thanks for the many hotels still accepting Bibles for their rooms.

The Branch had been experiencing difficulty in getting into Bohunt School, Liphook. There had been a lot of prayer about this and they are delighted that arrangements are now in hand for a visit before the end of this academic year. Praise God!

Give thanks with the Branch for the two couples and a man who joined the Branch after their BDD last month, and rejoice that a school closed for a few years has invited the Branch to do an assembly this year. Please pray about over 50% of their schools that haven't responded yet this year.

Please pray for Roger Howes, Camberley & SE Berks Branch, Chairman of the London Scripture Focus Steering Group, as the Group meets this afternoon to plan this year's Focus in South London. Pray also for the Church Leaders' Lunch before the meeting, that it will be an uplifting time for all who attend.

Give thanks for the good number of Winchester Cathedral Badged Testaments already given to volunteers there. Pray for the Head Verger as he contacts the Branch to discuss further distribution. May each Scripture be a blessing to the recipient.

Please continue to pray for Hants West Branch's contact with the Chaplain for Hampshire Police about obtaining agreement to provide Badged Testaments for the Force. A second meeting with him took place at the end of April.

 

Update 22 May

No surgery is planned for the liver cancer and the chemotherapy treatment is to be for six months rather than three.  The aim is to prevent the cancer spreading anywhere else.

I started the first cycle of treatment last Tuesday (15/5) and I am now adjusting to the various changes brought about by the side effects.

Brenda and I remain very much supported in prayer from many people, for which we are very grateful.

  Please continue supporting David, Brenda and family in your prayers to our Living God.  Such a pleasure and grace to know God is perfectly faithful.

Tyne North Branch ask for prayer that we get invitations to visit the Year 7 assemblies in 5 of the 20 schools which we normally get into.
